Medical Laboratory Studies Major (MAP)

The Medical Laboratory Studies major is designed for already certified medical laboratory technicians with an Associate of Science (AS) degree in medical laboratory technology who wish to obtain a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, in order to eventually qualify to sit for the MLS exam with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) using the route 2 pathway.
This major incorporate a strong concentration of biology (6 credits) and chemistry (9 credits) courses. Often referred to as the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Career Pathway. (See Career Pathway visual below) This is also a strong course of study for MLT’s who plan to attend a science-based graduate programs in the areas of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Physician Assistant, or Pathologist Assistant.

MAP majors are designed to accomodate the demands of your career and personal life. Most courses are offered multiple times per year within four 10-week terms. This allows you to:
- Adjust your course load: take only 1 or up to 4 courses each term
- Choose the pace at which you will complete your program: take courses in just one term each year,or in all 4
- Customized dual majors and or/minors: Your Health-Related Program Advisor will help you create a curriculum plan to meet your career goals
