EDUC 571 - Professional Practices in Secondary Education I Investigates the characteristics of effective secondary schools and school reform models, as well as the nature of individuals in grades 7-12 in school settings. Course content focuses on curriculum planning and modifications; selection and appropriate uses of materials; instructional and literary styles, methods, and adaptations; classroom management skills; effective collaboration strategies; accessing support services; skills required for instructing and managing an inclusive classroom; developmentally appropriate teaching; differing learning styles of students; context-based assessment and evaluation; and applications of educational technology. Field experience required.
