Understanding Academic Terms

Muskingum offers courses in multiple session lengths within each semester. Knowing the difference is important when planning your schedule:

• 8-Week Sessions 
  Each semester includes two 8-week sessions (Session I and Session II). 

  • Session I runs during the first half of the semester.
  • Session II runs during the second half of the semester.
• 5-Week Sessions (Graduate Courses Only)
  • Session 1: early part of semester (F1)
  • Session 2: mid-semester (F2)
  • Session 3: late semester (F3)

Important: Add/drop and withdrawal deadlines are tied to the start date of the course, not the overall semester. Be sure to check your session-specific dates.
