MUSC 205 - Foundations of Western Art Music II Credit Hours: 3
This course is the second in a series of four on the history, theory, and literature of music in the Euro-American classical tradition. It presents the fundamental building blocks of Western music in the Baroque era, including figured bass notation, counterpoint, chords, and functional tonal harmonies. By considering common structures, famous composers, and representative musical works, it examines the context, meaning, and impact of music in Western culture.
