MUSC 204 - Foundations of Western Art Music I Credit Hours: 3
This course is the first in a series of four on the history, theory, and literature of music in the Euro-American classical tradition. It presents the fundamental building blocks of Western music from Antiquity through the Renaissance, including the principles of acoustics and analysis of notation, temperament, modes, intervals, and triads. By considering common structures, famous composers, and representative musical works, it examines the context, meaning, and impact of music in Western culture.
Prerequisite: MUSC 101 or permission of instrcutor
