MUSC 216 - Aural Skills II Credit Hours: 1
This course is the second of two that teach students to hear and reproduce melodies, rhythms, and harmonies in the Euro-American classical tradition. Students translate sound into notation and notation into sound, including increasingly complex representations of staff notation, intervals, major and minor scales, key signatures, rhythms, and melodic sequences (including chromaticism). Students study and notate harmonic structures including diatonic and chromatic chords, modulation, and contemporary harmonic language. This course continues discussion of ways of hearing and reproducing music outside of Western Art Music, particularly in oral/aural traditions from around the world.
Prerequisite: MUSC 215 or instructor consent
