SPAN 245 - Medical Spanish Terminology Credit Hours: 3
The purpose of this course is to study the use of Spanish in healthcare contexts. Students will learn and practice medical terminology and learn the basics of medical interpretation. Our study of anatomy, health care terminology, and the grammar needed to communicate effectively will be complemented by another theme: the importance of culture in the delivery of health-care services, and the problems that arise from a cultural divide in health-care delivery. Finally, in the last part of the semester we will study what health-care problems are particularly common in the Spanish-speaking population of the United States, along with positive aspects of demography: the strengths that Hispanic culture provides to help maintain wellness.
This course is designed for an Intermediate High (B2) proficiency or above.
