MUSC 244 - Fundamentals of Audio and Recording


Credit Hours: 1

This course introduces techniques of sound reinforcement, music recording, and audio production through lecture, analysis, and hands-on application. Topics include: the nature and perception of sound; how sound is transformed to and from electrical signals by means of microphones and loudspeakers; and how sound can be creatively modeled through mixing consoles, signal processors, and digital audio workstations. Students will learn how to (1) select, position, and utilize sound reinforcement equipment to amplify live performances, (2) record live sounds, and (3) edit, mix, and master recorded sounds with editing software.
