Understanding Academic Terms

Muskingum offers courses in multiple term lengths within each semester. Knowing the difference is important when planning your schedule:

• Full Semester Courses
  These run the entire 16-week semester (Fall or Spring). Most traditional courses follow this schedule.  

• 7-Week Sessions (Traditional Undergraduate Courses Only)

• 8-Week Sessions (notated by E1 or E2 in the course section number)
  Each semester includes two 8-week sessions (Session I and Session II). 

  • Session I runs during the first half of the semester.

  • Session II runs during the second half of the semester.

Important: Add/drop and withdrawal deadlines are tied to the start date of the course, not the overall semester. Be sure to check your session-specific dates.
